It’s great that Portugal is attracting remote workers, but if the government doesn’t step in to protect locals from soaring rents and gentrification, it’s just another case of profit over people.

Once again, globalism puts locals last—bringing in outsiders for profit while ordinary Portuguese people get priced out of their own cities.

This is what happens when you put globalism and open-borders ideals ahead of your own people—locals get priced out and their culture gets watered down. It’s about time Portugal started putting its citizens first instead of bending over backwards for wealthy foreigners looking for tax breaks.

Honestly, it feels like our own people are being pushed aside so foreigners can come in and take advantage of our resources and culture. Housing prices are skyrocketing, and regular Portuguese families can barely afford to live in their own cities now. The government should focus on protecting our national identity and making life better for locals, not just chasing the next trend for outsiders.
